Focus Gate

Chrome or Microsoft Edge

Getting started

  1. 01

    Create a Focus Task

Name it ("Deep work", "Study"), add the sites you need and, optionally, a duration.

  2. 02

    Pick how strict to be

Soft shows a warning, Delay adds a 15-second countdown, Hard closes the tab.

  3. 03

    Start and stay on task

Tabs that wander outside your allowed sites are handled by the mode you chose.

  4. 04

    Review your focus

History shows past sessions, interruptions and total focus time.

Common questions

A site I need keeps getting blocked.

Add its domain to the task's allowed sites. Use *.example.com to allow every subdomain, such as docs.example.com.

Hard mode closed a tab I wanted.

That is Hard mode doing its job: any tab outside the allowed sites is closed at once. For a gentler session, switch the task to Soft or Delay.

It doesn't react on some pages.

Browsers don't let any extension run on their own pages, such as chrome://, edge:// and the extension stores, so those are left alone.

Where are my tasks and history kept?

Only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded, and removing the extension removes the data with it.

Didn't find it?

"Report a problem" opens an email with the version filled in. Say what happened and, if you can, how to make it happen again.
